Tuemose
- sub-project no. 5 og 6
Tuemose lies like a patch of butter between the beautiful Læsten Bakker and the large forest areas at Fussingø. The area forms the watershed for the two streams Nørreå and Skals Å and here used to be a large area of bog, i.a. with raised moss. Today, the area consists of bog, lakes in the former peat pits and the impassable forest Tuemoseskoven. Vejle Bæk cuts through the bog in an east-west direction.
The project area is an approx. 40 ha large area south of Vejle Bæk.
The western part is a varied bog, consisting of degraded raised bog and forested peat bog. Here you will find, among other things, several species of peat mosses and sun dew.
The eastern approx. 17 ha is a self-grown forest (Tuemoseskoven) with primarily red spruce, which is designated as virgin forest. The spruce is about to die out, many have fallen and in time a more natural swamp forest will take over.
The goal of the project is to eventually restore secondary active raised bog in the entire project area, and to create an opportunity for the migration of large goldfinches to the area.
In collaboration with the plot owners, we will work to restore a more natural water level in parts of the bog. This improves the possibilities for active peat formation and thus an active raised bog.
