Hønning Mose
- sub-project no. 9
Hønning Mose is located in Tønder Municipality just north of Arrild, adjacent to Hønning Plantage and Lindet Forest. The bog is part of a larger nature area with bog, heath and forest of 2325 ha. The project includes 192 ha of privately owned bog areas. The bog is characterized by drainage and peat digging and less than 1 ha of the original raised bog surface remains. In the southernmost part of the project area, a small project was completed a few years ago, which has resulted in the water level being raised and stabilized in this part of the bog. This project must create the prerequisites for developing active raised bogs of up to 120 ha that are currently degraded raised bogs.
In connection with the project, it is planned to carry out land distribution, with the aim of creating the prerequisites for being able to enter into agreements with the plot owners on the completion of the project.
South of Hønning Mose are several important bog areas where people have recreated or are working to recreate favorable conditions for the bogs. Together with Kongens Mose, Sølsted Mose, Kogsbøl Mose and Tinglev Mose, among others, Hønning Mose will in the future become a very important habitat for a large number of rare species. This could, for example, provide better living conditions for the rare Tinksmed, which bred in Hønning Mose in 2001 and has not been seen in the bog since 2008.
The objective is
- to develop active raised bog on 120 ha, which today is degraded raised bog or forested peat bog
- to clear approx. 30 ha of trees and bushes
- to increase the water level on 192 ha
- to carry out monitoring of water levels, vegetation and rare species
- to strengthen the dissemination of the nature of the bog
